     The Selkirk Rex originated in America in 1987. It is a medium to large cat. The coat is soft and curly. They are mild tempered and fun loving cats.

    They come in Long or Short coats and in a variety of colors, with the first Selkirk carrying the color point gene.

     Persians, Exotics and British Shorthairs have been used as outcrosses to develop this breed.

     The Selkirk Rex was admitted to Championship status by TICA in 1994 and by CFA in 2000. WCF, GCCF, ICF and some other cat organizations accept the Selkirk Rex for registration and showing.
